New Direction Costume Choices
As I have changed my idea my costume choices have changed, due to my idea having the female signifying danger I want her to wear a piece of red clothing which stands out, which is a technique also used in the film Submarine, I want my male to deeply contrast this by wearing dark clothing as shown below.

Potential Band Names
I have brainstormed some ideas for the name of the fictional band for who my music video is for as well as album titles for the digipak/poster release. Brackets indicate the source of inspiration and bold indicates my final choice.
Band names:
Aurora (Foo Fighters song)
Columbia (Oasis song)
Flashbax (Oasis song)
The Magic Bus (Who song)
Eminence Front (Who song)
February Stars (Foo Fighters song)
Album Titles:
The Time has come again (Last Shadow Puppets song)
Work is the curse of the drinking classes (Famous quote)
Turn up the sun (Oasis song)
The Morning son (Beady Eye song)
Wigwam (Beady Eye song)
Dead and gone (Black Keys song)
Beetlebum (Blur song)
To the End (Blur song)
My chosen band name is Eminence Front, I like this firstly because it is not some generic overused name with "The" placed before it, this gives it more character immediately also the meaning of the phrase Eminence Front is about pretentiousness and the way people try to hide their feelings and put on a front this ties in well with my song choice "Temptation greets you like a naughty friend".

New Direction/Idea
I've taken quite a dramatic step of changing my idea for my video, having not yet filmed my video has enabled me to do this without major issues,I will post new costume and storyboard posts, I watched the film Submarine and was inspired by some of the scenes, such as the opening title scene were each shot is like a photograph, this combined with the realization that my original idea wasn't that strong also the ambitiousness and logistics of it would make it far too difficult to execute to a high standard as I had 5 cast members who all lived in completely different places none of which were close to my filming location, I consider myself a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to work such as this so there was no way I could go through doing something knowing it wouldn't be that good. My new idea consists of a change of song and locations, My new filming locations will be a area surrounding a train bridge in Hull and a nearby forest area, the new song I will use is "Temptation Greets You Like Your Naughty Friend" by Arctic Monkeys, this song is about how temptation is always present (for some anyway) and it's not always easy to walk away from. People have their reasons why they are tempted and some will always finds ways to justify their behavior. The Audience profile of my chosen song is the same as my original idea.My cast will consist of 1 male character, 1 female and 1 person who will only have their mouth on show as the lead singer, I have made an example of this technique below
Using this technique I will have only have the lead singer singing the song on the chorus with just his mouth on display, in the black pains I may also add other images during the video which I feel will give quite attractive, abstract look. The narrative to the video will be about a man who is tempted by a female but has unknown reasons to the viewer why he cant be with her, this female is then in the head of the male protagonist and he keeps imagining her in places during everyday life and the whole concept of temptation playing on his mind linking back to the song meaning. The female will wear a red jacket to connote danger. An example of the linking to the song meaning to the narrative is that the word "temptation" is repeated in the song 4 times as part of the verses, every time this is sung the word "temptation" appears on everyday objects in the male characters filmic world such as on signs, shopping lists and on his phone screen but as he looks again in time with the music it is no longer there this then shows how the female is playing on his mind and how she is messing with his head. This idea should be simple to execute and film, I think if done properly it will look very effective. I realise it is a gamble to effectively start over but I feel that I had no real passion for my original idea and therefore was struggling with motivation were as now I am waiting to get a camera and will be filming as soon as possible as I believe in this idea, also with the reduction of cast it will be easier to film also the people I have chosen to be in the video live close together and to me so will once again eradicate the problems I had with my earlier idea.

Example of how red is used to connote danger from the film Submarine, this is something I would also want to do.

Problems Shooting video
I have been held back filming my video as I haven't been able to get a day were cameras are available from college and myself and cast are all available, I hoping to get this done as soon as possible. In the mean time I have been designing my first drafts of my ancillary texts.

Costume
The costume choices for the actors in my video will be heavily influenced by the the mod scene and the style of Liam Gallagher,Paul Weller,Ian Brown and The Who. One of the most recognized pieces of clothing from my genre is the classic Fred Perry polo, worn by Mods, Casuals and people involved in the britpop movement such as Liam & Noel Gallagher and Damon Albarn, I want the main protagonist to be wearing one with dark blue jeans and a pair of Adidas Originals trainers such as Gazzelle's, Samba's or Spezial's as these are also heavily related to the my genre and the look I am going for. I want my lead singer to be wearing a iconic mod fishtail parka as worn by Liam Gallagher and Jimmy in Quadrophenia, also I want the lead singer to be wearing a Pretty Green shirt, this is Liam Gallagher's own clothing label. Below I have created some illustrations showing what I want.

Storyboard analysis
My music video will feature a mixture of performance and narrative, I feel this is the best choice as you have performance from the band but it doesnt get boring as it is broken up by a running story, this is backed up by the polls on my blog as all of the votes are for either performance or narrative. The settings for my video are, firstly for the band performance, an abandoned dock building and sidings in Hull city centre and various locations for the narrative part of the story. I have chosen the abnadoned dock area due to its relations to the working class within Hull, this ties in with my song as "Bring it on down" is a song all about the working class from a band (Oasis) with a working class background.
My video will open with a shot of a can of Special Brew tipping over and spilling its contents on the floor, this signifies the draining away of jobs, industry and hope, the fact that it is a can of Special Brew, links once again with people low down in society as it is a drink associated with the homeless and alcoholics, The link I mentioned earlier of the idea of the can spilling signifying the loss of industry and jobs ties in with location choice of a abandoned dock siding as Hull was once one of the busiest ports in the world due to its fishing industry, the majority of people in the city were once employed in some way to the industry and when it dried up many became unemployed.
My band will feature only the lead singer and guitarist as it would be too difficult I feel logistically to get a drum kit to to my location, I have placed below some images of some of my possible locations,

I have purchased a similar mic stand and microphone to be used in my video to fit the genre of my song. As I stated earlier my video will also feature a narrative, my basic idea for the narrative is that the lead singer almost acts as the main protagonists conscience because when he is singing the lyrics it is as if he is talking directly to him, For example the protagonist will be a working class male who has no job, survives on benefits and lives for the weekend, this ties in with the song lyrics "You're the outcast, you're the underclass, But you don't care, Because you're living fast". In the narrative I want to feature a scene were the protagonist is shown stealing from a shop, I want to have a mid shot of the shop as he walks in but once he is in the shop I want it to look like he is being filmed on CCTV I think this will look really effective if done correctly, Also the idea of the lead singer narrating the life of the main protagonist will be used again because in the part of the song were I will place the shop scene the lyrics are: "Bring it on down, Bring it down for me, Your Heads in a fish tank, Your body and your mind can't breathe", To me this saying that the pressure of society is building up on the protagonist and lead singer is commanding him to rob the shop ("Bring it on down for me"). Below is a tutorial on how I will achieve the CCTV technique.

Old dock area near The Deep gives deep contrast between new and old industrial Hull.
Abandoned Rank Hovis factory, Hull city centre, demonstrates loss of industry in the city.
Abandoned dock sidings, Great Union street, Hull City centre
In the lip syncing parts of my video I want to use a mixture of close ups of the singers face and mid shots of them and the mic stand, I feel that this look is very imposing and is demonstrated in the Oasis video "d'you know what i mean" shown below:

Evaluation of Deconstruction and Reconstruction task
In evaluation I think our group worked well together as we
all had clear roles on what to do these were that myself and Kate would be in
charge of the camera, Harriet was the producer, Dave was the director and we
picked Charlotte to be in the video as she knew the song and fitted the style
of our chosen genre, the only issues came because we didn’t plan in enough
detail beforehand, for example when getting Charlotte to lip-synch to the song
we only got her to sing the first part of the song as the same verse is
repeated but we didn’t realise that the second time the verse is sung it is
faster and in a higher key so it was impossible to match our version of the
real scene from the video without her lips being out of synch, this is something
I will learn from when I’m making my own music video. Harriet storyboarded the
song as all of our groups already storyboarded songs where set in locations
which would be too hard to recreate, while myself and Dave chose the filming
locations, we tried to get them as close to the locations in the video but
obviously we could not get them exact, I am reasonably happy at our selections,
if you look at the shot by shot comparison I have made you can see that all of
the shots have a similar background and are framed near identical, The shot I
am most pleased with is probably the shot in which Charlotte sings in front of
a window, This type of shot is hard to do as it is very difficult to film in
front of a window and not just get a black silhouette, me managed to get a good
shot using two studio lights, one on either side of Charlotte to illuminate her
face against the window, we also shut certain blinds in the room and changed
the lighting levels we also used masking tape to recreate the paned window in
the actual video. A shot I would like to have another attempt at is the bike
shot, this was the last shot we needed to complete and as the deadline was fast
approaching it could be said that we rushed it, The camerawork in our bike shot
is pretty poor as we didn’t really plan it, when we filmed it we got Charlotte
to ride the bike while I ran backwards with the camera and Kate ran alongside
to play Charlotte the song, this was quite hectic and as a result the camera is
very shaky, I think we could of easily done better if I had used a better
technique to film or we simply had the camera static and we rode the bike
towards it, once again I think all of our group will learn from this and have
better timekeeping when we make our own video. When filming the shot which
features Lucy Rose on the roof of a building with trees in the background we
chose to film on a balcony at college which looked quite good although we only
shot it once as it started to rain, we then found that when we got on the
editing suite that a rain drop had landed on the lens and made part of the shot
blurry we didn’t realise when filming as Myself, Harriet and Dave had our backs
to the camera once we had set it up as Charlotte wasn’t comfortable at us
watching her perform has we were making her laugh, we didn’t have time to film
this scene again so used it anyway although it’s not that noticeable unless
pointed out as we edited it in such a way that it was only used for a short
amount of time. When it came to editing
we all pitched in and had ago at editing the segments together, Me and Harriet
started the editing off and firstly named all of our clips and discarded the
ones which weren’t needed, we trimmed and put in place the first 3 shots and
once receiving a second opinion from Dave, Kate and Charlotte we rendered that
piece, then Kate and Dave edited the second part of the video. We rushed the
ending of the video as we thought we had less time left then what we actually
had, when watching the video as a group we decided we could improve the ending
as well as some of the lip synching and inserting a good shot we hadn’t used in
the first take, So me, Dave and Charlotte went back on the editing suite while
Kate and Harriet updated the blogs and uploaded the video to YouTube, On the
editing suite we made several adjustments which we believe have improved the video
(Both versions are on our blogs). Finally I think that our video is a very good
effort and when watching the actual video alongside it you can tell what we’ve
tried to do and how similar our shots are to those of the real video, also
usually in a large group one person will have to do all the work while everyone
else sits back but in ours I feel there was an equal workload but we also
helped each other on the tasks showing excellent teamwork considering a couple
of members of the group didn’t know each other before the task. We have all
learned from this task and I’m sure we will all be able to create our
individual videos better because of the lessons we learned while
filming/editing etc.

Influential Media Texts
I am going to use these three influential media texts to conduct feedback interviews with my audience to gather their psychographic preferences, opinions and values which I will then carry over to my work. I have chosen the following media texts because:
1. Oasis "Some might say" video
I have chosen this video as it uses many aspects I would like to use in my music video, for example: Filmed in black and white, I am looking at the possibility at having my video in b&w as I feel that it reflects the working class roots of the fictional band I will be creating for my video, also I like the style of the fast paced rythmic editing in the video which is somthing I definetly want to use along with idea that the video features the band performing as well as a narrative.
Questions
What do you find appealing about the video?
Do you like the use of colour and editing?
2. Oasis "d'You know what I mean" video
My reasons for using this video as one of my influential media texts is that I want have an outdoor performance like the simple one in this video of Liam Gallagher and a mic.
Questions
Do you like videos which feature a performance from the band?
-If yes, Do you prefer the performance at an actual gig with a crowd or an outdoor location?
3. Oasis "Go let it out" video
In this video I like jumpy the editing style when Liam is singing I also like the overall image of him in the video and I would preferably want my model to have a similar style.
Questions
Do you like the jumpy editing style?
Do you agree that Liams hair and clothing is well suited to this genre?

Song Choice
"Bring it on down"
The song I have chosen to use for my video is "Bring it on down" by Oasis, This song is from the bands first album "Defiantly Maybe" which tells the story of being a member of the working class. "Bring it on down" carries on the albums trend of working class anthems with lyrics such as "You're the outcast, you're the underclass, but you don't care, because you're living fast" this line to me is referring to being jobless in a harsh economy and living off the welfare state, maybe committing petty crime and simply living for the weekend. The term "Underclass" is a phrase used by sociologist Charles Murray who describes the working class as "Idle thieving bastards" in reference to claiming benefits and having no job, due to this I want my video to feature a performance from the band entwined with a narrative of working class people.

Lyrics
What was that sound ringing around your brain?
Today was just a blur, you gotta head like a ghost train
What was that sound ringing around your brain?
You're here on your own who you gonna find to blame?
You're the outcast - you're the underclass
But you don't care - because you're living fast
You're the un-invited guest who stays 'till the end
I know you've got a problem that the devil sends
You think they're talking 'bout you but you don't know who
I'll be scraping your life from the soul of my shoe tonight.
Bring it on down. Bring it down for me
Your head's in a fish tank
Your body and your mind can't breath
You're the outcast - you're the underclass
But you don't care - because you're living fast
You're the un-invited guest who stays 'till the end
I know you've got a problem that the devil sends
You think they're talking 'bout you but you don't know who
I'll be scraping your life from the soul of my shoe tonight
