Influential Media Texts

I am going to use these three influential media texts to conduct feedback interviews with my audience to gather their psychographic preferences, opinions and values which I will then carry over to my work. I have chosen the following media texts because:

1. Oasis "Some might say" video

I have chosen this video as it uses many aspects I would like to use in my music video, for example: Filmed in black and white, I am looking at the possibility at having my video in b&w as I feel that it reflects the working class roots of the fictional band I will be creating for my video, also I like the style of the fast paced rythmic editing in the video which is somthing I definetly want to use along with idea that the video features the band performing as well as a narrative.

Questions

What do you find appealing about the video?
Do you like the use of colour and editing?

2. Oasis "d'You know what I mean" video

My reasons for using this video as one of my influential media texts is that I want have an outdoor performance like the simple one in this video of Liam Gallagher and a mic.

Questions

Do you like videos which feature a performance from the band?
-If yes, Do you prefer the performance at an actual gig with a crowd or an outdoor location?

3. Oasis "Go let it out" video

In this video I like jumpy the editing style when Liam is singing I also like the overall image of him in the video and I would preferably want my model to have a similar style.

Questions

Do you like the jumpy editing style?
Do you agree that Liams hair and clothing is well suited to this genre?

Song Choice

"Bring it on down"

The song I have chosen to use for my video is "Bring it on down" by Oasis, This song is from the bands first album "Defiantly Maybe" which tells the story of being a member of the working class. "Bring it on down" carries on the albums trend of working class anthems with lyrics such as "You're the outcast, you're the underclass, but you don't care, because you're living fast" this line to me is referring to being jobless in a harsh economy and living off the welfare state, maybe committing petty crime and simply living for the weekend. The term "Underclass" is a phrase used by sociologist Charles Murray who describes the working class as "Idle thieving bastards" in reference to claiming benefits and having no job, due to this I want my video to feature a performance from the band entwined with a narrative of working class people.

Lyrics

What was that sound ringing around your brain?
Today was just a blur, you gotta head like a ghost train
What was that sound ringing around your brain?
You're here on your own who you gonna find to blame?

You're the outcast - you're the underclass
But you don't care - because you're living fast
You're the un-invited guest who stays 'till the end
I know you've got a problem that the devil sends
You think they're talking 'bout you but you don't know who
I'll be scraping your life from the soul of my shoe tonight.

Bring it on down. Bring it down for me
Your head's in a fish tank
Your body and your mind can't breath

You're the outcast - you're the underclass
But you don't care - because you're living fast

You're the un-invited guest who stays 'till the end
I know you've got a problem that the devil sends
You think they're talking 'bout you but you don't know who
I'll be scraping your life from the soul of my shoe tonight
